What stays on your device
If you accept the cookie prompt, the site keeps two things in your browser's local storage: your theme choice, and the names of the last few tools you opened. That is what powers the "you used recently" row. It never leaves your device, we cannot read it, and clearing your browser data removes it.
If you decline, nothing is stored except the fact that you declined, so you are not asked again.
What the tools do with what you type
Names, chores, options and lists you type into a tool are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded, stored or logged, which is why it is safe to put real names into the name picker.
Advertising
This site is paid for by advertising, served by Google. Some things follow from that, and they are worth stating plainly.
- Third party vendors, Google included, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and elsewhere on the internet.
- You can turn off personalised advertising at Google's Ads Settings. Vendors other than Google can be reached through aboutads.info.
- Google's own description of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com.
Where the law requires consent for advertising cookies, that request comes from Google's consent tool rather than from us, and it is separate from the small prompt about the site's own storage. Declining it does not stop you using anything here.
Server logs
The content delivery network keeps standard access logs so we can count how often each page is opened. Those counts produce the "everyone's picks" list. The nightly job that reads them counts page addresses only; it does not read addresses, cookies or sessions, and no count is ever tied to a person.
Children
The site is for a general audience and we do not knowingly collect anything from children. There are no accounts and nothing to sign up for.
